UnitProof

Per-unit identity for Shopify.

Shopify knows the product, the variant, and how many you have. It does not know this one — the particular bike, camera or guitar in front of you. So when a customer comes back about one specific item, there is nowhere for that to land.

UnitProof gives every physical item its own record.

What it does

Its own number
Issue each item an identifier in a format you define — UP-000148, a check digit, whatever your labels already use. Or import the numbers that are printed on your stock today.
Its own history
Sold, returned, serviced, refurbished. Every entry is added, never edited or deleted, so what you end up with is a record you can actually show someone.
Filled in while you pack
Assign a unit to an order line from the order page in Shopify admin, scanned or typed, at the moment it goes in the box — not re-keyed into a separate tool afterwards.

What it is for

Today

Warranty claims on a specific unit. Second-owner and resale enquiries. Showing that an item is the one it claims to be.

2027

EU battery passports. From 18 February 2027, batteries for light means of transport — e-bikes, e-scooters, e-mopeds — need a per-item record accessible to the person holding the battery.

This is in development. There is no public release yet, and this page is not a waiting list.

I am speaking to merchants who deal with individual units every day — before building much more of it. If that is you, I would genuinely like to hear how you handle it now, and what breaks. A two-line reply is useful; fifteen minutes is better.
